changes around the time it was assembled, you may never know. Alternately, it may be a limited run for a music store or a prototype model. It could be a DX1 or even an XL made in '96 using parts that were kicking around.
It is possible the neck has been replaced of course. As it has the sharkfin inlays and binding, I don't think it is a Performer or JS series. Playing the first note on a new guitar is a special moment - but the moment your own self-built instrument comes alive in your hands is nothing short of magic. It also has a Transparent pick guard on it. The pick ups are HSS and say Jackson on them.

The head stock reads Jackson Professional and the Nut cover says Dinky STD. It also allows you to play in E standard as if the guitar has 6 strings. I have not been able to look online and even Find one like this guitar. One odd thing is the lack of writing, besides the Jackson logo, on the headstock and/or truss rod cover making the neck a bit of an anomaly. ESP 7 String Guitars - Guitar Center SERIAL C2110354 5lbs. The Duncan Designed pickups weren't offered until '96. The tremolo is a JT580LP which was on both the '95 XL and the '96 DX1. The '96 DX1 is pretty much the same but doesn't have the horn bevel, at least in the maple top versions shown in the catalog, the solid color versions may very well have the bevel. 96xxxxx, 97xxxxx and 98xxxxx serials oftentimes don't indicate '96, '97 and '98.
If it looks like the typical Japanese DK2M with a maple board and black shark fins it's probably just a misprint. The body shape with the lower horn bevel is identical to the '95 XL. A 7 digit 9828849 serial would be circa 2008, so it may be a misprinted serial. year of '96 pegs it as a MIJ and is definitely a Dinky of some ilk.
